RAW – Video installation

In the Luciana Brito Gallery pavilion, Paula Garcia presented her never-before-shown video and sound installation CRU (2024), conceived after a project of the same name carried out in 2020. In addition to investigating the relationships between body and matter, CRU investigates the presence of violence and its impact on human bodies at its most extreme. This ambitious, disruptive work required a highly complex production process: the action involved a head-on collision between two cars, one driven by the artist herself and the other by a professional stunt driver. The collision was staged inside the ARCA event space in São Paulo. To ensure safety, Paula Garcia collaborated with specialists to calculate every aspect, including distances and the speed of impact.
